JOHANNESBURG, 30 March 2026 – The Rebirth of Ubuntu concert returns this year, celebrating South Africa’s vibrant culture, creative industries, and the power of youth development. Curated and produced by renowned guitarist and composer Billy Monama, this fusion of heritage and cultural diversity takes place at the Joburg Theatre for two electrifying nights on 29 and 30 May.
The 5th edition bursts onto the scene under the theme “50 Years of Youth Legacy.” “This is more than a concert; it is a cultural statement,” shares Monama. “It is a moment to remember who we are, honour our past, and envision a more compassionate future together through diversity. We vow to champion access, inclusion, and real community change. Through social good, culture, and storytelling, we empower and elevate our communities through the transformative power of art and shared heritage.”
This year’s lineup delivers powerful homages to the musical icons who shaped South Africa’s cultural heartbeat. Lira pays tribute to Miriam Makeba, capturing her timeless spirit, while Zoë Modiga honors Busi Mhlongo with evocative jazz artistry. Adding to the vocal splendour, Tutu Puoane offers a moving tribute to the “First Lady of Song,” Sibongile Khumalo. Vusi Nova channels Lucky Dube’s soulful legacy through Xhosa storytelling, and Billy Monama celebrates the guitar mastery of Allen Kwela. Crowning the evening as the 2026 honoree is legendary guitarist, composer, and academic Jimmy Dludlu, whose fusion masterpieces echo the soul of the continent.
The star studded collective features the platinum selling elegance of Lira, the spiritual depth of Zoë Modiga, Vusi Nova’s emotive range, and the global sophistication of Tutu Puoane. Backed by a majestic 20-piece orchestra arranged and conducted by Grammy winning producer Joe Arthur, the event promises a transformative soundscape.
